Three decisions to make before November
Oct 23, 2026
Most of the stress of the busy season doesn't come from being busy. It comes from deciding things on the run, when you're tired and there's a queue at the counter.
Should you open on that extra Sunday? When's the last day for Christmas orders? Is it worth stocking that new range? Each question feels small on its own. Answered one at a time, in the middle of December, they add up to a season that runs you instead of the other way around.
So here are three decisions worth making now, while you've still got the headspace.
- Your days off
Put them in the diary first, before any late nights or extra trading. Christmas Day, the days after, and a proper break in January. Everything else fits around them. If you wait to see whether there's time, there won't be.
- Your last order date
For deliveries, custom work, gift hampers or bookings, pick the date and say it once. Put it on your website, in your email signature and on a sign at the counter. You'll save yourself dozens of "can you still do it by Christmas?" conversations.
- Your top one or two offers
Every business has a couple of things that carry the season: a best-selling product, a gift voucher, a seasonal service. Name yours. Put your energy, stock and marketing behind them, and treat everything else as a nice-to-have.
That's it. Three decisions, maybe twenty minutes with a cuppa. The busy season will still be busy, but you won't be making it up as you go.
