Practical business support

for regional communities

Masterclasses that meet small business owners where they are —

and help them move forward with clarity, confidence and realistic next steps.

"Wow! It's just been so great working with Shelley and her team of Regional Champions on this 'Business Compass' event. The whole process has been so easy, Shelley and her team has put together all of the collateral and all of the marketing needed - we just have to share it far and wide. And we are so lucky that many of the Regional Champions are actually on our B2B Program as well, so the synergies there are just perfect!" - Anita Mariani, Regional Development Manager  |  RDA Barossa, Light, Gawler & Adelaide Plains

Small business owners in regional communities are navigating increasing complexity.

They are balancing employment, self-employment, family responsibilities, community expectations and economic uncertainty — often all at once.

Your Business Compass partners with regional organisations to deliver practical, accessible business support that is:

  • grounded in real-world experience
  • responsive to local context
  • designed for follow-through
  • and integrated into existing regional ecosystems

We don’t deliver in isolation.

We collaborate to strengthen what already exists.

Our Delivery Model

3-Hour Business Masterclasses

Our core offering is a 3-hour, co-facilitated masterclass, designed to fit seamlessly into regional programs, workforce initiatives and place-based activity.

Each session is:

  • facilitated by two of our small business expert Compass Guides, including Founder Shelley Cox when available.
  • discussion-led and practical
  • responsive to the challenges in the room
  • supported by clear frameworks and participant workbooks

This format allows for high-touch engagement, meaningful conversation and realistic problem-solving — without requiring full-day attendance.

How the Sessions Work

Each masterclass includes:
  • Guided discussion around a current business challenge
  • Practical frameworks participants can apply immediately
  • Real examples from regional and small business contexts
  • Time for reflection, questions and shared problem-solving
  • Clear next steps and connections to relevant local pathways

Participants leave with:

  • clarity about what matters next
  • increased confidence to take action
  • practical tools they can return to
  • stronger connection to local support networks

Co-Facilitated by Compass Guides

Local Legends  |  Brain Power  | Better Together

Our Compass Guides are local legends who know that business success is deeply intertwined with community life.

They bring a diverse range of expertise, offering collaborative problem-solving to propel your business forward.

Each masterclass is delivered by two experts from the Your Business Compass team, ensuring a diverse range of experience is present.

The facilitation team includes one Compass Guide, selected based on topic and participant needs, and a lead facilitator (often Shelley Cox, Founder of Your Business Compass).

Compass Guides and our team of facilitators are experienced practitioners across marketing, finance, operations, leadership and wellbeing, ensuring sessions are:
âś“ credible
✓ grounded
✓ and directly relevant to participants

This co-facilitation model increases engagement and allows for deeper, more responsive support during sessions.

Why this Works in Regional Contexts

Our approach is designed to:

  • complement existing workforce, self-employment and business programs
  • reduce fragmentation by aligning with local services
  • meet participants where they are, not where systems expect them to be
  • increase attendance, engagement and follow-through

We understand that many participants are navigating multiple pathways — employment, self-employment, caring roles and community contribution — and design sessions accordingly.

Who We Partner With

We work collaboratively with:

  • Regional Development Australia
  • Councils
  • Startup and innovation hubs
  • Workforce and self-employment providers
  • Place-based and community organisations

Delivery is flexible and aligned to regional priorities and funding frameworks.

"One of the best things about the roadshow today was the different businesses that were in the room, and the different stages of business they were all at. So we had product makers, people selling experiences, we had service businesses; some starting out and some who were more established. And what was great was to see how much sharing there was between the businesses, and the sorts of connections that were being fostered between the people in the room."
